TUCP is a Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs undertaking aimed at strengthening the trade union movement in low- and middle-income countries. It has been in existence since the 1970s, and its goal is to improve labour and trade union rights through, for example, strengthening the capacity of unions and umbrella organisations. The TUCP focuses on the company level as well as on the sectoral, national, and international level. CNV Internationaal as the receiver of TUCP, implement the program in the palm oil sector.
Supported by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), This project aims to accelerate the process of jurisdictional approach, in the palm oil sector in Seruyan and Kotawaringin Barat districts while expanding in two neighboring districts, Sukamara and Ketapang districts in West Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan. As part of the consortium, CNV International focuses on strengthening the social dialogue and gender equality in the palm oil plantations.
SPLP supports and builds on existing government-led initiatives, in particular the Green Siak District Roadmap and the District Action Plan for Sustainable Palm Oil in Pelalawan. SPLP brings together a coalition of eight palm oil companies working together to halt and reverse historical rates of deforestation, degradation of forests and peatland, while mitigating risk from fire and agricultural expansion.
There are many land and labour-related issues – with many of the district’s mills lacking engagement or awareness relating to NDPE (no deforestation, no planting on peat, no exploitation) production.
